Morris & Co. Willowbough Coir Doormat

The Willow Boughs Coir Doormat is inspired by the intricate trees that William Morris loved to look at on his walks. On one such walk was along the River Thames in London with his daughter May Morris, who later recounted it as the point of inspiration for Willow Boughs: 'We were walking one day by our little stream that runs into the Thames, and my Father pointed out details and variety in the leaf forms and soon afterwards this paper was done, a keenly observed rendering of our willows.'

Designed in 1887, it quickly became one of Morris & Co.’s most popular designs of the time, since it so wonderfully reflects William Morris’ great observation and fascination with nature. Willow Boughs is a leafy pattern in shades of green
